Sean Phelan

Sean Phelan has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries. Sean has held various positions throughout their career, starting in 1990 with Amdahl Ireland/DMR Ireland/Fujitsu Ireland, where they worked in roles such as Quality Engineer, Applications Development Programmer, Line Manager/Project Manager, Systems Development Service Line Manager, and Applications Maintenance Service Line Manager.

In 2000, Phelan joined Assurelink Ltd. as Chief Information Officer, responsible for providing e-business solutions for the life and pensions industry. Sean also held the role of Head of Projects & Technology at Assurelink Ltd.

From 2003 to 2007, Phelan was the Head of Group IT Development at Payzone Group, a leading cash acceptance network operating across multiple countries in Europe.

Phelan then served as Co-Owner and Director of Operations & IT at Smart Transfer Ltd., a prominent provider of prepaid payment cards in Ireland and the UK, from 2007 to 2016.

In 2016, Phelan founded Phelcom Limited, and the following year, they joined Payzone Ireland as the Chief Technology Officer. In 2023, they were promoted to Chief Innovation Officer at Payzone Ireland, where they identified new strategies, business opportunities, and technologies to drive growth and developed new capabilities and collaborations with partners.

Sean Phelan holds a BSc in Physics from University College Dublin, which was obtained from 1986 to 1989. Sean also completed a Higher Diploma in Statistics from Trinity College Dublin in 1992-1993. In 1997-1998, they received a Certificate in Managing Professional Services from The Open University. Additionally, Sean earned an MBA in Business from University College Dublin between 2000 and 2002. Sean has also obtained a certification in Agile Project Management from LinkedIn in an unknown month of 2017.
