Wernher Stapelberg

Wernher Stapelberg is a seasoned professional in operations development and project management within the mining and resources sector, currently self-employed since December 2016. As the VP of Operations Development Asia at Peabody Energy since June 2012, Wernher Stapelberg oversees the execution of operational mining ventures across Asia. Previous experience includes serving as Chief Representative in Beijing for Exxaro Resources from December 2006 to May 2012, where responsibilities included fostering relationships with government departments and laying the groundwork for sourcing from China. Earlier roles involved managing projects for Kumba Resources Ltd and overseeing the construction of zinc refinery expansions in Inner Mongolia for Chifeng Kumba Hongye Zinc Smelting Co. Ltd. Wernher Stapelberg holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pretoria.
