Austin Laing-Herbert has a diverse work experience in the field of coral reef restoration and management. In 2015, they participated in a professional development course focused on large-scale coral reef restoration techniques and strategies. Laing-Herbert also worked as a Trainee at Nature Seychelles, where they were involved in the implementation and execution of various projects, including weekly monitoring of coral reefs during the 2015/16 El Niño, construction and maintenance of coral nurseries, and assessment of potential resilient sites. Austin later joined Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas as a Restoration Co-Project Coordinator, where they designed and set up a coral restoration project on Six Senses Zil Pasyon Island. Laing-Herbert also served as a Project Operation Coordinator for the Reef Rescuers Program at Nature Seychelles, overseeing all operations conducted by the program. Austin co-founded people4ocean in 2017, with a vision to be a leader in coral reef rehabilitation and sustainable management. Additionally, Laing-Herbert worked as a Coral Restoration Specialist at Raffe Hotels & Resorts, where they collaborated with non-profit organizations to implement a coral restoration and reef management training program. Overall, Laing-Herbert's work experience demonstrates their strong commitment to environmental conservation and their expertise in coral reef restoration.

Austin Laing-Herbert obtained their Bachelor's Degree in Zoology from Massey University, where they studied from 2005 to 2009. Later, they pursued a Master's Degree in Marine Sciences at James Cook University from 2012 to 2013.
