Marlene Mullen-Clayton has extensive work experience in the medical field. Marlene has held various roles throughout their career. Marlene started working as an Attending Physician in the Emergency Department for CHS, EPMG, Team Health in 1990 and continued in this role until 2008. During this time, they also worked as an Emergency Department Medical Director at EPMG, PC from April 2007 to September 2008. In 2008, Marlene joined Executive Health Resources, where they held multiple roles such as Physician Advisor, Team Lead, and Senior Medical Director, focusing on concurrent commercial denials and appeals. Marlene worked there until May 2014. After that, Marlene served as the Chief Medical Officer at Premier Healthcare Exchange, Inc. from May 2014 to October 2015. Marlene then became an ICM Medical Director at UnitedHealth Group from October 2015 to June 2016. Currently, Marlene is the Chief Medical Director at Performant Corp, starting in June 2016.

Marlene Mullen-Clayton completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology at LaSalle University from 1979 to 1983. Marlene then pursued a Doctor of Osteopathy degree at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, graduating in 1987. Marlene later obtained a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, with a concentration in Medical Management, from 2011 to 2014. Furthermore, they acquired a Certification in Certified Physician Executive from ACPE in 2013. Marlene holds additional certifications, including being a Fellow of the American Association of Physician Leaders (obtained in February 2016), a Board Certification in Emergency Medicine from the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians (obtained in December 1991), and a Care Guidelines Specialist Utilization Management certification from MCG Health (obtained in June 2016).
