Laura D. has worked in a variety of roles in the political and corporate worlds. In 1997, they began their career as Deputy Chief of Staff for the Senate Republican Conference in the United States Senate. Laura then moved on to Citizens for Better Medicare in 1999 as Deputy Executive Director, followed by the National Republican Senatorial Committee in 2001 as Director of Integrated Media. From 2003 to 2012, they served as Assistant Secretary for the Majority in the United States Senate, and then as Deputy Director of Policy and Strategy Council for Romney for President in 2012. In the same year, they took a sabbatical with Dove-Solomon Family Sabbatical Inc. before joining Ford Motor Company in 2020 as Senior Director of Federal Government Affairs. In this role, they led the federal government relations team during a period of intense transformation and was named to The Hill's Top Lobbyists in 2020 and 2021. Laura also chaired Ford's employee PAC. In 2022, they moved on to become Director at Perpetua Resources and a Fellow at the Institute of Politics at the University of Chicago.
Laura D. attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1988 to 1992, where they earned a B.A. degree. Laura then attended the University of Virginia from 1994 to 1995, where they earned a M.A. in English. Prior to this, they attended the US Senate Page School from 1986 to 1987.
