Mark L. Scheuer, MD joined Persyst in October of 2006 as Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Scheuer is board certified in neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and in clinical neurophysiology by the American Board of Clinical Neurophysiology.
Dr. Scheuer’s research interests include near real-time brain function monitoring technology, automated seizure and spike detection, new EEG analysis techniques, and antiepileptic drug pharmacology. He has been the principal investigator in several phase III trials of investigational antiepileptic drugs and has conducted studies of antiepileptic drug pharmacokinetics.
Prior to joining Persyst, Dr. Scheuer was the Director of the University of Pittsburgh’s Epilepsy Center and their Neurology Residency Training Program. Prior to that, he was an Assistant Professor of Neurology at Columbia University, where he also served as the Director of the Clinical Epilepsy Program at the Columbia Comprehensive Epilepsy Center.
Dr. Scheuer graduated from the University of Chicago’s Pritzker School of Medicine, did his internal medicine internship at Pennsylvania State University’s Hershey Medical Center, and completed residency in adult neurology at the Neurological Institute of New York where he served as Chief Resident. During his fellowship at the University of Virginia, Dr. Scheuer was named Merritt-Putnam Clinical Research Fellow of the American Epilepsy Society.
