Sam Gaughran started their work experience in 2006 as a professional footballer for Peterborough United Football Club. Sam progressed from the youth team to the first team and served as captain for both the youth and reserve teams. In 2010, they worked as a Neighbourhood Football Coordinator for Norfolk County Council, where they coached 15-19 year olds in deprived areas to reduce anti-social behavior. In the same year, they also became a Kings Lynn Area Manager for Kings Lynn Community Football, coaching various sports in schools and building strong relationships with schools and parents. From 2013 to 2015, they worked as a Head Coach for The College of West Anglia, managing the Men's 2nd team and running coaching sessions for college students. In 2014, they became a Lead Sports Activator for Kings Lynn Community Football, where they increased sport participation for people aged 14+ in West Norfolk. In 2015, they took on multiple roles at Peterborough United Football Club, including Head of Recruitment, Peterborough United U15's Academy Manager, and Head Coach of the U18's development program. Most recently, in 2017, they became the Director of Globall Soccer Recruitment, where they established a network for soccer players to connect with teams and universities worldwide.
Sam Gaughran attended Anglia Ruskin University from 2011 to 2014. Sam obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Sports Coaching and Physical Education. In addition to their degree, they also obtained the UEFA B Qualification certification from UEFA in 2014. In 2016, they received the FA Youth Award certification from The Football Association. Sam also completed the Youth Module 1, 2, and 3 certifications from The Football Association at an undisclosed time.
