Yug Varma

Yug Varma is a seasoned professional in microbiome research and biotechnology. As the Founder and CTO of Phyla since February 2014, Yug Varma has developed precise microbiome editing techniques for chronic disease treatment, securing a co-development deal with a leading skincare firm for a first-in-class acne product. Yug Varma's efforts include validating business concepts through interviews with over 200 stakeholders, securing NIH SBIR grant funding, and engaging in comprehensive microbiome sample analysis and assessment. Prior experience includes serving as a Postdoctoral Scholar at UCSF from March 2011 to January 2016, focusing on human microbiome interactions, and a Graduate Student at Johns Hopkins University from August 2000 to February 2011, culminating in a Ph.D. in Bioorganic Chemistry. Education comprises an M.Sc. in Chemistry from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, and a Doctor of Philosophy from The Johns Hopkins University.
