Ian Richardson has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries. Ian is currently working at Plug Power as an H2 Product Development and R&D Manager, where they started in September 2022. Prior to this, they served as the Manager of Hydrogen Liquefaction from October 2021 to September 2022.
Before joining Plug Power, Ian was the CEO & Co-Founder of The Protium Company from October 2015 to December 2021. Ian also worked at Washington State University as a Washington Research Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow from February 2018 to October 2021, and as an Instructor from August 2016 to June 2017.
Ian's earlier experience includes internships at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center as a Mechanical Engineering Intern in the summer of 2016, at NASA Glenn Research Center as an Engineering Intern in the summer of 2015, and at the National Institute of Standards and Technology as a Guest Researcher during the summer of 2011.
During their time as a Guest Researcher at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, Ian gained valuable experience in developing equations of state for pure fluids, conducting literature reviews, and studying thermodynamic properties of hydrogen isotopes.
Ian Richardson completed their education at Washington State University. Ian first earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical Engineering from 2007 to 2011. Following this, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Material Science and Engineering from 2011 to 2017. During their time at Washington State University, Ian also obtained additional certifications, including a Nuclear Engineering Certificate in December 2013 and an Engineer in Training (EIT) certification from the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) in April 2011.
