Project Manager / Mentor at Polygence

Carlene Chinn has a diverse work experience in various research and academic roles. Carlene is currently working as a Project Manager and Mentor at Polygence, where they mentor high school students in research topics related to psychology, neuroscience, and biology.

Prior to this, Carlene worked as a Researcher PhD Candidate at the Center for the Neurobiology of Learning and Memory at UC Irvine. Carlene'sresearch focused on DNA methylation in epigenetic clocks of aging and the comorbidity of PTSD and substance use disorder. In this role, they conducted animal model behavioral paradigms, performed experimental designs, prepared high-throughput sequencing libraries, maintained transgenic mouse colonies, and conducted imaging and chromatin immunoprecipitation.

Carlene also worked as a Script Writer for The Loh Down on Science podcast, where they wrote monthly scripts to communicate scientific discoveries to a wide audience. Additionally, they worked as a Lab Assistant I at the Institute for Memory Impairments and Neurological Disorders (UCI MIND), where their research focused on the effects of antiepileptic medication on gene expression in preclinical AD.

Earlier in their career, Carlene served as a Student Finance Analyst at the Institute for Genomics and Bioinformatics and as a Grant Evaluation Assistant at the Institute for Clinical and Translational Science.

Throughout their various roles, Carlene demonstrated strong research skills, including literature review, experimental design, data analysis, and scientific communication. Carlene also has experience in managing lab protocols, training undergraduate researchers, and conducting various laboratory techniques such as tissue cell culture, DNA, and RNA isolation, and PCR.

Carlene Chinn began their education journey in 2014 at UC Irvine, where they pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. This program lasted from 2014 to 2018. Following their undergraduate studies, they continued their education at the UCI School of Biological Sciences in 2019, embarking on a Master of Science program in Biological and Biomedical Sciences. This program concluded in 2022. Undeterred by their significant achievements, Carlene Chinn went on to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy in Neuroscience at UC Irvine starting in 2019. This program is expected to last until 2024. Overall, Carlene Chinn's education history demonstrates their dedication to expanding their knowledge and expertise in the field of neuroscience.
