Missie Thurston has over 17 years of experience in marketing and communications roles. Missie is currently working as the Director of Marketing & Communications at Population Media Center since 2013, where they are responsible for developing and implementing marketing strategies to grow relationships with target audience segments and acquire and nurture donors.

Prior to that, Missie was the Co-Founder of Tire Swing Creative, LLC. from 2008 to 2020. In this role, they developed the business model for a multi-media design company, balanced budgets, determined project timelines, and worked with clients to identify and reach their goals.

From 2009 to 2013, they worked as the Communications & Marketing Manager at the Northwest Center for Public Health Practice. Here, they defined goals and implemented strategic communications, marketing, and branding for the center and its activities. In addition, they led the communications division, overseeing internal and external communications across various channels.

Before that, Missie served as the Media Producer / Graphic Designer at the University of Washington, Center for Public Health Informatics from 2008 to 2009. Missie developed the organizational structure and categorization of projects, rebranded the center, and coordinated all public relations efforts.

Missie also has experience as a Co-Writer/Co-Producer at The Vermont Book Of Days from 2003 to 2008, where they co-wrote and co-produced a multimedia program broadcasted daily throughout Vermont. Missie also designed, published, and distributed a successful book for the program.

Additionally, Missie has freelanced for Windermere Services Company in 2008 and Macy's Northwest in 2007, specializing in mixed media marketing, including newspaper, magazine, and online collateral. At Macy's Northwest, they were responsible for bridal campaigns and special events.

Missie Thurston has a Certificate in Marketing Management from the University of Washington - Michael G. Foster School of Business. Missie also holds a Bachelor's of the Arts degree from Saint Michael's College, where they studied English, Journalism, and Mass Communications.
