Shalaka Wijeyaratne has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Shalaka started their career in 2011 as a Facility Attendant at the Clemente Center of the Florida Institute of Technology, where they provided assistance to patrons and maintained facility standards. In 2014, they joined AECOM as a Project Assistant and later became a Senior Project Assistant and Business Development Manager, where they contributed to the growth of the company and promoted its presence in the industry. In 2020, Shalaka held a role as a Consultant - Investment and Business Promotion at Selendiva Investments Ltd. Shalaka also served as a Director and Managing Director at Canwill Holdings (Pvt) Ltd - Grand Hyatt Colombo in 2020. Additionally, they were a Member of the Advisory Board of the College of Aeronautics at the Florida Institute of Technology, starting in 2020. Shalaka'smost recent roles include Manager and Senior Manager at Port City Colombo, where they strategized and implemented development plans and attracted investment opportunities. Shalaka has a strong background in project coordination, management, and promotions.

Shalaka Wijeyaratne completed their high school education at Asian International School in Colombo, Sri Lanka from 1994 to 2008. Shalaka then pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Science without Flight from Florida Institute of Technology, attending from 2010 to 2014. In 2018, they enrolled at the University of Bedfordshire and obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree with a focus on Marketing in 2019.

In addition to their formal education, Shalaka has obtained several certifications. Shalaka became a Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM MCIM) in March 2022. Shalaka also achieved the status of Justice of Peace in the Colombo Judicial Zone through the Government of Sri Lanka in May 2021. Shalaka holds a Certificate of Achievement in Entrepreneurship in Emerging Economies from HarvardX, an online learning initiative by Harvard University through edX, earned in May 2020. Shalaka is an Ordinary Member of the Sri Lanka Institute of Directors since March 2020. In January 2020, they became a Member of the Association of Business Executives, UK. Lastly, Shalaka is a Member of the Chartered Management Institute since August 2020.
