Vice President, Strategy & Culinary at Portillo's

Garrett Kern's work experience includes a variety of roles in the food and hospitality industry. Garrett started their career as the owner of Garrett's Table in 2007 and later served as the General Manager for the Moto Restaurant Group from 2008 to 2012. In 2012, they joined Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. as a Finance & Operations Analyst until 2014. From 2014 to 2017, they worked as an Associate in Asset Management for Tishman Hotel Corporation. Garrett then joined Bain & Company in 2017 as a Consultant and later became a Case Team Leader. In 2019, they joined Portillo's as the Senior Director of Strategy and eventually became the Vice President of Strategy & Culinary in October 2021.

Garrett Kern obtained a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degree from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business from 2014 to 2017. Prior to that, they earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in History from the University of Michigan between 2004 and 2008. Additionally, they have a certification as a Certified Sommelier from the Court of Master Sommeliers, obtained in 2011.
