Walt Scher

Walt Scher has a diverse work experience in the field of communications. Walt is currently serving as the Director of Corporate Communications at the Portland Trail Blazers @ the Rose Quarter, where they manage all business-related communications and storytelling surrounding DEI, community, fan development, and partner initiatives. Walt also serves as the Public Information Officer on the Emergency Operations Team for most Rose Quarter events. Prior to this role, Walt was the Corporate Communications Manager at the same company.

Before joining the Portland Trail Blazers, Walt worked at CBS Sports as a Publicist from June 2019 to October 2021 and as a Communications Coordinator from December 2018 to June 2019.

Walt gained valuable experience as a PR Intern at Minnesota Vikings Football, LLC, where they were a vital member of the Vikings Public Relations staff. Walt coordinated interviews, updated player bios, tracked statistics, contributed to Hall of Fame campaigns, and assisted the NFL PR staff leading up to Super Bowl LII. Walt also oversaw and instructed a gameday and training camp staff, designed media documents, and acted as a point of contact for media members regarding practice and availability. Walt worked at the Minnesota Vikings from June 2016 to August 2018.

Walt also worked as an Assistant Director of Media Relations at Atlantic Sun Conference for a brief period in 2016 and as a Communications Intern at the Washington Football Team from July 2015 to January 2016.

Additionally, Walt gained experience as a Strategic Communications Student Assistant at the University of Missouri-Columbia, where they completed various tasks such as writing features, stat research, and game day assistance for multiple sports. Walt worked at the university from August 2013 to June 2015.
