Porter Harris has a wide range of work experience in the fields of energy, engineering, and technology. Porter is currently the Founder & Managing Partner of ZZYZX and the Co-Founder & Co-Director of HBF Foundation, both positions they have held since 2021. Prior to this, they were the Founder & CEO/CTO of Power Global starting in 2019. In 2020, they served as the Chief Technical Advisor at PositivEnergy.
From 2016 to 2019, Porter was the Co-Founder & CTO of Romeo Power Technology, where they were responsible for designing and manufacturing innovative energy systems for consumer and electric vehicle applications.
Before joining Romeo Power Technology, they worked at FF, Inc. as a Senior Manager, Battery Hardware Engineering from 2014 to 2016. In this role, they were the Chief Battery Architect, leading the design and development of high-performance battery modules and packs for electric vehicles.
Porter's work at SpaceX from 2010 to 2014 included roles as an Environmental Control and Life Support Systems Engineer and an Energy Storage Engineer. In these positions, they were responsible for designing and optimizing air circulation, sanitation, and waste management systems for crewed spacecraft. Porter also played a key role in the design and development of battery systems for rocket and spacecraft applications.
Their earlier experience includes working as an Electronics Engineer/Test Engineer at AeroVironment from 2009 to 2010, where they conducted battery testing for aerospace and electric vehicle applications. Prior to that, they worked at The Aerospace Corporation as a Laboratory Associate from 2008 to 2009, managing battery test hardware and designing custom data acquisition/control test equipment for satellite batteries.
Porter's career started at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where they worked as an Electronics Technologist in the Energy Manipulation Technologies Group. Here, they operated high-energy capacitor banks and DC pulsers for research testing and plasma studies.
Through their various roles, Porter has gained expertise in battery design, energy systems, engineering optimization, and research and development.
Porter Harris started their education journey in 1998 at Santa Barbara City College, where they studied Astronomy, Physics, Chemistry, Psychology, Silk Screening, Print Making, Figure Drawing, and English. Porter then transferred to Saddleback College in 1999 and continued their studies in Chemistry, Abnormal Psychology, Anatomy, and English. In the same year, they obtained a certification as a PADI Open Water Diver from PADI.
In 2000, Porter attended Whittier College, where they studied a diverse range of subjects including Physics, Philosophy, Psychology, Writing, Figure Drawing, and Painting. After completing their studies at Whittier College in 2001, Porter attended DeVry University from 2002 to 2005. Here, they pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Electronics Engineering Technology.
