John Condren

Principal Consultant & TARA Team Leader at PowerGEM

John Condren is a Principal Consultant at PowerGEM primarily responsible for the development of customized software applications based on the PowerGEM TARA software. Among other features, he has developed applications for ISO New England, which assist in their Forward Capacity Market evaluations, and MISO, which perform Ancillary Service Market calculation of reserve requirements on a zonal basis. Dr. Condren has also assisted with development of outage analysis software used by PJM, TVA, and MISO, which involves creation of successive system models corresponding to outage timeframes and development of tools to assess the reliability impact of requested outages. The outage analysis work included developing routines to read full EMS models of both PJM and MISO as well as performing contingency analysis based on bus-breaker contingency events. He also has experience using the PowerGEM PROBE software to perform economic planning studies at PJM.

Prior to joining PowerGEM, Dr. Condren was an engineer in the PJM Transmission Planning group where he performed various types of steady-state, peak load planning analysis. This analysis included both Generator Deliverability and Load Deliverability. He also wrote software to automate PJM voltage stability analysis as applied to RTEP planning criteria, and software to automate PJM's planning procedures for evaluating long-term 15-year-out scenarios.

John Condren holds BS and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering from Oklahoma State University. He is the author of several technical publications in the areas of power system analysis and economics. Dr. Condren is a Member of IEEE.
