David Harmsworth

David Harmsworth is a senior qualified solicitor with nearly 20 years’ legal experience in the music, media and technology sectors. Having joined PPL as an in-house lawyer in 2003, he was appointed as Head of Legal and Business Affairs in 2007, then Director of Legal and Business Affairs in 2012, before becoming General Counsel in 2018. Prior to joining PPL, David worked for what is now the global law firm Mayer Brown, where he advised a range of music, media and technology clients on IP, IT and company/commercial matters.

David is responsible for leading the Legal and Business Affairs team, overseeing the delivery of legal support underpinning all aspects of PPL’s operations and covering a broad spectrum of commercial, litigation and regulatory matters. Alongside this, David works with government and a range of industry bodies on public affairs matters (including being chair of the UK Music Rights & Legal Committee). He is also PPL’s Company Secretary.
