J Michael Fried founded Phoenix Realty Group in 1999 and served as the CEO. The company provides capital and expertise to urban and infill developers and invests in real estate ventures. It has attracted investments from leading pension funds, banks, and insurance companies and currently owns and operates over 10,000 apartment units in Metro NYC, Metro Los Angeles, and South Florida.

Before founding Phoenix Realty Group, they also served as the Founder and CEO of Related Capital, CharterMac, and Centerline Capital from 1979 to 1999.

J Michael Fried's education history begins at Michigan State University, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and American Studies between 1962 and 1966. J Michael then attended Long Island University from 1966 to 1968, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree with Honors in Psychology. Lastly, from 1971 to 1975, J Michael Fried attended Brooklyn Law School, where they achieved a Juris Doctor degree Magna Cum Laude in Law.
