Leanne Cullen-Unsworth

Chief Executive Officer at Project Seagrass

Leanne Cullen-Unsworth is the Chief Executive Officer of Project Seagrass since June 2021, focusing on the protection, enhancement, and restoration of seagrass meadows globally. Prior experience includes serving as Director at the Sustainable Places Research Institute, Cardiff University, from February 2011 to May 2021, and as a Senior Research Fellow researching social-ecological systems and sustainability. Additionally, Leanne co-founded and was a trustee-director at Project Seagrass from August 2014 to April 2020. Previous roles include Postgraduate Research Fellow at CSIRO, where Leanne developed cultural and biophysical indicators for the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area, and Marine Scientist at Operation Wallacea from 2003 to 2006. Educational qualifications include a PhD in Coupled Social-Ecological Systems from Essex University, an MSc in Marine Environmental Protection from Bangor University, and a BSc in Marine Biology from Newcastle University.
