Ayako Shapiro

Community Engagement Specialist at PRR

Ayako Shapiro has a diverse range of work experience, with their most recent position being a Community Engagement Specialist at PRR since January 2022. Prior to that, they worked as a Teaching Artist at Pacific Northwest Ballet starting from 2017.

From 2016 to 2021, Ayako worked at United Way of King County in various roles. Ayako began as a Fuel Your Future Program Coordinator, assisting in the development of a program that increases participation in federal meal programs and supports families in need. Ayako then served as the School Meals Access Specialist before becoming the Emerging Leaders Program Manager. In this role, they built a community of donors focusing on racial equity and donor accountability, managed a team and committee, organized events, and established equitable practices.

Before their time at United Way, Ayako interned at Second Harvest Japan in 2014 and at the National Museum of Dance in 2012. In 2014, they also worked as a research assistant at Skidmore College.

Ayako Shapiro attended Skidmore College from 2010 to 2014, where they earned a Bachelor's Degree in Asian Studies and Dance. Ayako also obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) and a Bachelor of Arts in East Asian Studies and Dance during the same period.
