Vaibhava Goel has extensive work experience in research and development roles in the field of artificial intelligence. Vaibhava served as the Vice President of Research at Pryon starting from September 2018, where they focused on machine reading comprehension and large-scale question-answering. Vaibhava played a key role in creating NLP and computer vision technology and engines from scratch, turning them into full-scale products.
Before joining Pryon, Vaibhava worked as the Chief Science Officer at a stealth mode investment management firm from March 2017 to April 2018. Prior to that, they held various positions at IBM. As a Research Manager & Principal RSM for the IBM Watson Group from October 2014 to March 2017, they led the research and development efforts in multimodal AI, achieving high rankings in Microsoft's COCO Image Captioning Challenge. Vaibhava was also instrumental in creating Watson Group's speech recognition and text-to-speech services, which became popular products with over 2 million API calls per day within a year.
Earlier in their career, Vaibhava worked as a Research Manager in Speech R&D at IBM Research from June 2010 to October 2014, and as a Research Staff Member at IBM Research from December 2000 to June 2010. Vaibhava began their career as a Graduate Student at Johns Hopkins University in 1993, where they pursued their studies until 2000.
Vaibhava Goel completed a BTech in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur from 1989 to 1993. Goel then pursued a Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering at The Johns Hopkins University from 1993 to 1996. Following this, Goel obtained a PhD in Biomedical Engineering, also from The Johns Hopkins University, from 1996 to 2000.
