Mike Smith

Mike Smith has extensive work experience in the field of mechanical engineering, particularly in the medical device industry. Mike is currently serving as the Senior Director of Research and Development at Pulse Biosciences, Inc. Prior to this, they worked as a self-employed individual, managing multiple companies and projects, including a stealth-mode startup and a cardiac catheter system.

Before their self-employment, Mike spent over a decade at Medtronic, where they held various leadership roles. Mike was promoted to the position of Senior Director of Product Development, responsible for leading the Research and Development strategy, tactics, and action plans for Vertebral Compression Therapies and Interventional Oncology product lines. Mike also served as a Director, where they were involved in assessing new market opportunities, technology selection, and business development partnerships. Additionally, Mike started their journey at Medtronic as a Product Development Manager and gradually climbed the ranks to become a Manager and Senior Manager, leading a team focused on developing novel concepts for minimally invasive spinal fusion and extremity fractures.

Before working at Medtronic, Mike gained experience as a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Arcturus Bioscience Inc, where they worked for two years. Prior to that, they worked at Novellus Systems Inc as a Senior Mechanical Engineer, focused on developing capital equipment for chemical vapor deposition and etching.

Mike began their professional career at Space Systems/Loral, where they worked as a Senior Research and Development Engineer for four years.
