David Basiji

CEO at PypeServer

David Basiji has had a long and varied career in the engineering and technology fields. David began their career in 1989 as an Engineer at the Olduvai Gorge Archaeological Research Camp in Arizona State University. In 1999, they co-founded Amnis Corporation, a life sciences instrumentation business, and was its CTO and later its CEO and Chairman of the Board until the company was sold in 2011. From 2011 to 2015, they were the Senior Director of Cellular Analysis at MilliporeSigma, where they drove the Amnis business to a CAGR of 30% and helped turn around the remaining legacy MilliporeSigma cellular analysis business from a -10% year-over-year decline to +4% growth. From 2015 to 2018, they were the Vice President of Engineering at Biocare Medical, where they were responsible for the concept, design, and development of their fully automated FDA Class 1/Class 2 tissue staining platform. In 2018, they joined ThinkCyte as a Member of the Board of Directors. Since 2019, they have been the CEO of PypeServer Inc., a company whose software provides the missing link between design and fabrication. David also serves as an Affiliate Professor at the University of Washington, Department of Bioengineering, where they frequently serve as a guest lecturer in graduate and undergraduate Bioengineering courses, participates in entrepreneurship development programs, and mentors students.

David Basiji has a long educational history. David began their studies at Bethesda Chevy Chase High School before moving on to the University of California, Berkeley, where they earned their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Biophysics in 1991. After that, they attended the University of Washington, where they earned their Master of Science (MS) in Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering in 1993, and their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering in 1997.
