Ferhan Sakal has extensive experience in the field of archaeology. Ferhan started their career as a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Tübingen in 1994. Ferhan then worked as a Scientific Staff member at the same university from 2000 to 2005. From 2006 to 2010, they served as a PHD Scholar and later as a Research Associate. In 2011, Ferhan joined the University of Tübingen again as a Postdoctoral Research Associate. In 2013, they joined Qatar Museums, where they held various positions including Head of Archaeological Operations, Head of Survey and Excavation, and currently, as Head of Excavation and Site Management.
Ferhan Sakal obtained their Bachelor's degree in Protohistory and Near Eastern Archaeology from Istanbul University in 1994. Ferhan then pursued their Master's degree in Ancient Near Eastern Studies and Pre- and Protohistory from the University of Tübingen, graduating in 2000. Continuing their education, they completed their Ph.D. in Near Eastern Archaeology at the University of Tübingen in 2010.
