Mojtaba Jahani has a diverse background in bioinformatics and data science. Mojtaba started their career as a Bioinformatician (Research Assistant) at The University of British Columbia in October 2015 and worked there until July 2019. During this time, Mojtaba was involved in a Genome Canada-funded project focused on understanding powdery mildew resistance and accelerating cannabis breeding. Mojtaba played a key role in generating a Cannabis pan-genome composed of 12 novel high-quality, haplotype resolved, chromosome-scale genome assemblies. Mojtaba used various techniques such as high-coverage PacBio HiFi reads, chromosome conformation capture (Hi-C), and genetic maps to produce two complete haplotypes for each genotype. Mojtaba'swork significantly advanced the research and breeding of Cannabis.
In November 2019, Mojtaba joined the University of Calgary as a Bioinformatician (Postdoctoral Research Fellow) and worked there until August 2020. Mojtaba then joined Qu Biologics Inc. in April 2023 as a Data Scientist, where they currently hold a position.
Mojtaba Jahani has a strong educational background in the field of genetics and plant breeding. Mojtaba completed their Bachelor's degree in Agronomy & Plant Breeding at Vali-e-Asr University of Rafsanjan from 2006 to 2010. Following this, they pursued a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Biometrical Genetics & Plant Breeding at the University of Mazandaran from 2010 to 2013. Mojtaba'spassion for this field continued, leading him to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Biometrical Genetics & Plant Breeding at Shahid Bahonar University of Kerman from 2013 to 2019. During their Ph.D. studies, they also gained further knowledge and experience by being a Visiting PhD Student at The University of British Columbia from 2015 to 2019, specializing in Plant Genetics. Overall, Mojtaba Jahani's educational history reflects their dedication and expertise in the field of genetics and plant breeding.
