Aldert Zomer is a Universitair hoofddocent and Assistant Professor at Universiteit Utrecht since November 2014, specializing in (meta)genome sequencing for comparative genomics and molecular epidemiology of bacterial pathogens. Zomer serves as a bioinformatics consultant for Janssen Pharmaceuticals, focusing on bacterial vaccine development, and holds the position of Bioinformatics Scientist at Quadram Institute since June 2022. Previous roles include Visiting Scientist at UMC St Radboud, where research concentrated on drug target discovery and comparative genomics, as well as a postdoctoral researcher at University College Cork, focusing on Bifidobacterium genomics. Zomer completed a PhD in Molecular Genetics at the University of Groningen, supported by a research assistant position at IMEnz Bioengineering BV and an internship on malaria vaccine development at the University of Groningen. Educational background also includes a BSc in Biotechnology from Hanze.
