Machine Learning Engineer at Quora

Xinyi Yang has a strong background in machine learning and data analysis. They started their career in 2011 as a part-time assistant for a consultant at Bain & Company. In 2012, they became a graduate research assistant at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. From 2015 to 2017, Xinyi worked as a researcher at Stanford University, where they focused on understanding corporate strategy, innovation, and entrepreneurship using quantitative methods. They also initiated research projects to study how business decisions are influenced by individuals' prior experience. Following their research role, Xinyi interned as a data science intern at Zoom Video Communications in 2017. They then joined Uber as an Applied Scientist, working there from 2018 to 2021. In this role, they focused on applying scientific methods to real-world problems. From 2021 to 2023, Xinyi worked at Twitter as a Senior Machine Learning Engineer, specializing in optimizing the ads marketplace, with a focus on ads bidding and pacing. They were successful in improving the ads revenue by a certain percentage. Currently, Xinyi is employed as a Machine Learning Engineer at Quora, which they joined in 2023.

Xinyi Yang began their education in 2008 at Tsinghua University, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Economics and Finance in 2012. During their undergraduate studies, they also spent a semester at the University of Michigan - Stephen M. Ross School of Business as an exchange student in 2010.

After completing their bachelor's degree, Xinyi pursued their Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) in Strategy and Organization Theory at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology from 2012 to 2014.

Following their master's degree, Xinyi enrolled as a PhD student at Stanford University in 2015. Their field of study there was Management Science and Engineering, and they completed their doctoral program in 2017.

In terms of additional certifications, Xinyi obtained several certifications in various aspects of deep learning from deeplearning.ai in March 2019. These certifications include Convolutional Neural Networks, Improving Deep Neural Networks: Hyperparameter tuning, Regularization and Optimization, Neural Networks and Deep Learning, and Structuring Machine Learning Projects.
