Ms Leanne Harvey is Vice-President (Administration) and Registrar at QUT and leads the Division of Administrative Services (‘DAS’). The Division comprises a number of departments, namely Equity and Student Counselling Services, Governance and Legal Services, Health, Safety and Environment, Human Resources, Marketing and Communication, Student Business Services, the Student Ombudsman’s Office, Student Engagement and Sport, QUT Medical Centre, Assurance and Risk Management Services, the University Library and ‘HiQ’ (the University’s student enquiry service). Ms Harvey is also Secretary to the University’s governing body, QUT Council. Prior to joining QUT, Ms Harvey was Executive General Manager at the Australian Research Council (ARC), responsible for the ARC’s Research Excellence, Programs and Corporate Services branches, including stakeholder relations, parliamentary, finance, human resources and facilities functions. She played a pivotal leadership role in developing and delivering Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA), which the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) recognised as ‘state-of-the-art’ and which continues to build on the utility and evidence base for research policy both for Australia and internationally. Ms Harvey also acted as Chief Executive Officer of the ARC for extended periods of time. She transferred to the ARC due to Machinery of Government changes, taking with her extensive leadership experience from the (then) Department of Education, Science and Training. Ms Harvey’s career in the Australian Public Service saw her involved in social policy initiatives including leading publicly funded research, child support and taxation reforms. Ms Harvey completed her education in regional New South Wales, graduating at the top of her school and holds a Bachelor of Business in Accounting from (the now) Charles Sturt University.
