Katie Beck

Katie Beck has a diverse range of work experience in the healthcare and education sectors. Katie started their professional journey as a Registered Nurse at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in 2011, where they worked in various departments and was granted a sabbatical in June 2014. During their sabbatical, they pursued development opportunities overseas, including volunteer work as a Medic with Raleigh International.

After their sabbatical, Katie continued their career as a Registered Nurse at Royal Darwin Hospital in 2014 and then joined Mediserve Nursing Agency as a Registered Nurse from 2014 to 2015. In 2015, they worked as a Bespoke Expedition Medic with Raleigh International.

In 2016, Katie joined Raleigh International again, this time as a Medic and later as a Senior Nursing Officer. Katie was responsible for leading and supporting the medical team in remote and austere environments, managing Senior Nurses, and ensuring the implementation of robust medical systems and standards.

In 2016, they also began working as an Emergency Department Registered Nurse at West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust, a position they currently hold.

Katie's career in academia started in 2019 when they became an Honourary Clinical Lecturer at the University of Exeter and a Lecturer in Nursing Science at the University of East Anglia in 2020. Katie currently holds the position of Lecturer in Extreme Medicine at the University of Exeter, teaching and conducting research in this field.

In 2022, Katie also took on the role of Assistant Director Diploma of Tropical Nursing at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, U. of London.

Katie Beck has a Bachelor of Science degree in Evidence-Based Nursing (Adult) from the University of York, which they obtained from 2008 to 2011. Katie also completed an Emergency Nursing Module at King's College London in 2013. Katie holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Tropical Nursing from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University of London. Additionally, they are currently pursuing a Master's degree in Higher Education Practice at the University of East Anglia. Katie Beck is a registered nurse in both Australia and the United Kingdom. Katie obtained their registration in the UK from the United Kingdom Nursing and Midwifery Council in March 2011 and in Australia from the Australia Health Practitioner Regulation Agency in May 2015. Katie has additional certifications as a Mental Health First Aid Instructor (adult) from Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) England obtained in 2019 and as a Mountain Leader from Mountain Training obtained in 2018.
