Cormac Rice has a diverse work experience in the field of molecular microbiology, microbial genomics, and bioinformatics.

Cormac started their career at Queen's University Belfast, where they worked as a Summer Research Placement intern and later as a Research Scientist. During this time, they also received an SFAM Research Intern Scholarship.

Cormac then pursued a PhD in Molecular Microbiology and Microbial Bioinformatics at Queen's University Belfast, which they completed in January 2022.

In 2020, Cormac joined Randox as a COVID19 Laboratory Team Lead. Cormac later transitioned to the role of Senior NGS Bioinformatician & Microbial Genomics Team Lead. Their responsibilities at Randox include the development of in-house post-sequence analysis pipelines, maintenance of in-house HPC servers, and sequencing of environmental and clinical DNA samples using various sequencing machines.

Cormac Rice's education history begins with their time at St Mary's Grammar School Magherafelt from 2008 to 2015, where they pursued A-levels in Biology, Chemistry, and ICT. Cormac then attended Queen's University Belfast from 2015 to 2018, earning a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology with Honours, focusing on Microbiology, General. Continuing their education at Queen's University Belfast, Cormac completed their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Pharmaceutical Microbiology from 2019 to 2022.
