Bonnie Smyre has worked in the technology industry for over 20 years. Bonnie began their career in 1998 as a Consultant for Computer Technology International. In 1999, they joined the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, first as an Applications Specialist, then as an Applications Analyst, and finally as an Applications Programmer. In 2012, they moved to UNC-TV as an Applications Specialist. In 2013, they became the COO of Raxis, an Information Security company that performs ethical hacking/penetration testing, risk assessments, breach analysis and consulting services. In 2019, they became a Partner at Sentibox, a company that provides managed IT services that leverages cloud technology, remote engineering staff, and local on-site support.

Bonnie Smyre's education history includes a Bachelor's degree in Russian and East European Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, obtained between 1992 and 1996. Bonnie also attended Southern Polytechnic State University for Computer Science in 1998, and Georgia State University for Business Administration and Management, General from 1997 to 1998. In 1996, they attended Carolina Business Institute. In addition, Bonnie holds a Nexpose Certified Administrator certification from Rapid7, obtained in August 2018.
