A graduate of Dalhousie University Medical School in Halifax, NS, Dr. Johnston began his medical career as a general practitioner. After serving the community of Yarmouth, NS for four years, Dr. Johnston returned to Dalhousie to complete his residency in orthopedic surgery. Upon completing his residency in 1994, he obtained a fellowship at the University of New Mexico in upper limb surgery.
Dr. Johnston has over 20 years of experience practicing in the sub-specialty of upper extremity surgery. He performs approximately 200 rotator cuff repairs each year. However, an increasing number of his patients are middle-aged with mRCT, to which no viable surgical treatment is currently available. As a result, and with the help of Dr. Andrew Trenholm, Dr. Johnston co-founded Reach Orthopaedics.
