Sarah Smith began their work experience in 2015 as a Workshop Assistant at Mac Valves Inc. There, they assembled and tested valve stacks, cylinders, and lubrication systems, as well as performed machinery operations for small scale part production. Sarah also assisted with annual stock take. In 2016, they moved on to PTL as a Design Intern, where they developed design analysis spreadsheets, completed technical calculations for sales quotes, and implemented SOLIDWORKS Electrical as the company's P&ID creation tool. Sarah then progressed to the role of Design Engineer at PTL in 2017, where they created 3D Solidworks models and 2D manufacturing drawings, led design engineer on multiple machine design projects, and developed calculation spreadsheets to support machine designs. In 2022, they were promoted to Technical Manager at PTL, where they scoped early stage sales enquiries, resolved technical details for active projects, generated and analyzed technical data for PTL machinery and processes, and provided technical support through design, manufacturing, and commissioning project stages. Most recently, in 2023, they joined Recycleye as a Mechanical Engineer.
Sarah Smith attended Epsom Girls' Grammar School, where they studied Biology, Physics, Calculus, Māori, and Chemistry. Sarah completed their Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Canterbury between 2014 and 2017.
