David Okawa's work experience includes various roles in the renewable energy and technology industry. David is currently the VP of Products at Redwood Materials since 2021. Prior to that, they worked at SunPower Corporation for over 10 years, holding positions such as Sr Director R&D, Engineering Director for Module Product Development, Engineering Director for Utility Scale Power Plant, Principal Engineer, and Staff Engineer. Before joining SunPower, David was a Graduate Student at UC Berkeley, where they conducted research on the synthesis of Boron Nitride and Carbon Nanotubes. David also worked as a Graduate Student Researcher at Lawrence Berkeley National Labs. Additionally, they had internships at Roche Pharmaceuticals and Genentech in the field of Medicinal Chemistry.
David Okawa attended Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology from 1996 to 2000. David then went on to study Chemistry at Stanford University, where they earned their Bachelor of Science degree from 2000 to 2004. David proceeded to pursue further education at the University of California, Berkeley, where they obtained their PhD in Chemistry and Physics from 2005 to 2010.
