Andrew Gaynor has worked in the engineering industry since 2006. Andrew began their career as the founder and principle engineer of JAG Composites, a company that specializes in the design and analysis of high performance composite structures for the marine, aerospace, defense and automotive industries. In 2008, they joined the Design Team - Structures for BMW Oracle Racing - 33rd America's Cup. In 2010, they became part of the Design Team - Structures for Oracle Team USA - 34th America's Cup. In 2014, they worked as a Structures Engineer for Space Exploration Technologies and then joined Oracle Team USA - 35th America's Cup as a Structural Engineer. In 2017, they became a Consultant - Vehicle Structures for SpaceX. In 2018, they joined American Magic - Challenger, 36th America's Cup as a Structural Engineer. In 2021, they began working as Structures Lead and Structural Engineer for REGENT, and also joined American Magic - Challenger, 37th America's Cup as a Design Team - Structures and Relativity Space as a Consultant - Structures.

Andrew Gaynor attended the University of Rhode Island from 1995 to 1998, where they earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering. Prior to that, they attended St George's School from 1991 to 1993.
