Rene de Bruin

Rene de Bruin is a seasoned professional with significant experience in sustainable food systems and rural development. Currently serving as Thematrekker Duurzaam Voedselsysteem at Regio Stedendriehoek since February 2024, Rene has also been self-employed and the owner of STREEKWIJZER since January 1999, focusing on sustainable food and rural development issues. Additionally, Rene is a volunteer team member at Voedsel Anders Netwerk NL and has held roles such as company secretary for Stichting Streekeigen Producten Nederland and local food coordinator for municipalities of Epe, Heerde, and Voorst. With a history of entrepreneurship as co-owner of Heroes of Taste and founder of Alimenterra, combined with academic contributions as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Pisa and a researcher at Wageningen University, Rene holds a PhD in Rural Sociology and Economics from Wageningen University & Research and a Master of Science in Rural Development Sociology.
