Laurie Farquharson, CPA CMA, has a diverse and extensive work experience in various finance and accounting roles. Laurie is currently serving as the Chief Financial Officer at the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo since May 2022. Prior to that, Laurie worked at the City of Edmonton as the Director of Financial Operations from December 2019 to May 2022. Laurie also held the position of Manager of Corporate Accounts Payable for a brief period from April 2019 to December 2019 at the same organization.

Before joining the City of Edmonton, Laurie worked at the BC Public Service - Social Sector as the Project Finance Director from August 2017 to March 2019. Laurie then moved on to the Ministry of Social Development and Social Innovation where they served as the Director of Budgets, Programs, and Assurance from April 2017 to August 2017.

In the BC Public Service, Laurie held multiple roles including A/CFO and Executive Director from August 2016 to March 2017, Director of Budgets from June 2016 to August 2016, Director of Financial Operations from September 2012 to June 2016, Senior Manager of Accounting and Reporting from June 2011 to September 2012, and various other financial positions from 1992 to 2001.

Additionally, Laurie served as the VP at FMI Victoria Chapter from 2015 to 2016.

Laurie Farquharson completed their education at two institutions. Laurie attended Camosun College from 1989 to 1992 and obtained an Associate's Degree in Business Administration, specializing in Accounting and IT. From 2013 to 2015, Laurie attended the University of Victoria and completed the CPA, CMA program, earning the CPA, CMA designation. Additionally, Laurie has obtained additional certifications in CPA, CMA, although the specific institution and year of achievement are not provided.
