Peter Fischer has a diverse work experience in the field of healthcare. Peter started their career as a Firefighter/Paramedic at Little Miami Fire and Rescue in 1998. Peter then worked as a Paramedic at Hernando Fire and Rescue for five years before pursuing their medical education. In 2004, they joined The University of Tennessee Health Science Center as a General Surgery Resident and completed their residency in 2011. Peter then completed a Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at Oregon Health & Science University in 2012.
After their fellowship, Peter joined Carolinas HealthCare System as an Assistant Professor in Trauma/Surgical Critical Care & Acute Care Surgery. Peter worked there for four years before joining Regional One Health in 2016. At Regional One Health, they held various roles including Trauma/Surgical Critical Care & Acute Care Surgeon, Trauma Medical Director (Interim), and Chief of Trauma (Interim).
In addition to their clinical practice, Peter has also been involved in academia. Peter joined The University of Tennessee Health Science Center as an Associate Professor of Surgery in 2016 and later became an Associate Professor of Anesthesia in 2017. Peter has also been actively engaged in teaching and mentoring as the Associate Program Director for the Acute Care Surgery Fellowship and as the Chief of Division of Trauma/Surgical Critical Care (Interim) at UTHSC Department of Surgery.
Peter's most recent experience includes working as the Medical Director at Hospital Wing since 2017.
Peter Fischer has a diverse education history. Peter obtained a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from Vanderbilt University in 2000. Peter then pursued a Medical Doctor degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine from 2000 to 2004. Later, they completed a Master of Science in Epidemiology from The University of Tennessee Health Science Center between 2006 and 2008. In addition to their formal education, Peter obtained certifications such as Flight Paramedic Certification (FP-C) in 2020, Board Certified Surgical Critical Care in 2012, Board Certified Surgeon in 2011, ATLS Instructor in 2007, Firefighter Level II in 1998, and EMT-Paramedic in 1997.
