William Macready

William Macready has a diverse and extensive work experience. William is currently working at RelationalAI as the VP of Research since April 2022. Prior to that, they worked at Sanctuary AI as the Chief Scientist from November 2019 to April 2022.

Before joining Sanctuary AI, William was involved with D-Wave Systems Inc. William held two positions at D-Wave Systems - SVP Machine Learning from November 2017 to November 2019, and VP Product Development from April 2005 to November 2017. In these roles, they led the machine learning and application strategies, built and managed teams, and played a key role in research and development.

From 2002 to 2005, William was a Senior Scientist at NASA Ames Research Center. There, they built and led a machine learning group, generating significant funding and contributing to NASA's aerospace missions and operations.

From 1997 to 2002, William worked at Bios Group as the VP of Science and Research. William managed a large team and was responsible for technical approaches, project delivery, and sales to Fortune 500 clients.

Beginning their career in academia, William worked as a Post Doctoral Researcher at the Santa Fe Institute from 1992 to 1996. During this time, they conducted research on the limits of search and optimization methods, distributed methods for control of complex systems, and new machine learning techniques.

Overall, William Macready has demonstrated expertise in machine learning, research leadership, team management, and business development throughout their career.

From 1986 to 1991, William Macready pursued their PhD in Theoretical Physics at the University of Toronto.
