James Hickson

Geospatial Data Engineer at Rezatec

James Hickson has worked in a variety of roles since 2015. James began their career by studying a BSc in Physical Geography at Aberystwyth University, where they developed an in-depth understanding of GIS and a basic understanding of Remote Sensing. James was also awarded a scholarship to conduct undergraduate dissertation project research in Switzerland. In 2016, they worked as a Food and Beverage Supervisor and Bartender at Aberystwyth University Students' Union. From 2019-2020, they studied an MSc in Earth Observation and GIS at Aberystwyth University, and conducted research on refining global mangrove forest extent mapping methods using Sentinel-2 data and machine learning methods. During this time, they also worked as a Whitewater Raft Guide and Safety Kayaker at AREA 47, where they developed a range of soft skills. In 2020, they worked as a Consulting Partner at Llywodraeth Cymru / Welsh Government, where they used hyperspectral datasets to investigate and mitigate a common vegetation disease. Currently, they are a Geospatial Data Engineer at Rezatec.

James Hickson obtained a Bachelor of Science in Physical Geography from Aberystwyth University between 2015 and 2019. James then went on to earn a Master of Science in Remote Sensing and GIS from the same university from 2019 to 2020. Prior to this, James attended Ysgol Friars between 2011 and 2015. In addition, they also hold certifications from the Austrian Rafting Associations for International Rafting Federation Level 3, which they obtained in July 2019, and from Getafix Ltd. for REC First Aid (Outdoor First Aid), which they obtained in March 2019.
