Eric G. O'Rear is a Senior Analyst at Rhodium Group. Eric was previously Lead Economist at MITRE from June 2018 to May 2021. Prior to that, they were Economist/Associate Project Leader at the National Institute of Standards and Technology from June 2014 to June 2018. There, they oversaw research team responsible for developing the Building Industry Reporting and Design for Sustainability (BIRDS) Commercial Buildings Database, which is to be included in BIRDS v4.0, scheduled for a 2018 release. Eric has also assessed the impacts of changes in state building code requirements on the environmental and economic performance of US commercial and residential buildings using life-cycle costing and life-cycle impact analysis approaches; evaluated the energy and economic performance sensitivity of low- and net-zero energy residential building designs related to uncertainties in underlying cost parameters and rates of degradation for on-site solar photovoltaic systems; and led research team investigating the impacts of climate change on the long-term sustainability performance of low-energy and net-zero energy residential buildings. Additionally, they served as co-leader of research team exploring the integration of sustainability and disaster resilience within the built environment.
Eric G. O'Rear has a certification from the Krannert School of Management Applied Management Principles (Mini-MBA) Program at Purdue University. Eric also has a Bachelors of Science in Mathematical Sciences from SWD and a Doctor of Philosophy in Agricultural Economics (Energy & Natural Resources) from Purdue University West. Finally, they have a Bachelors of Science in Mathematical Sciences from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University.
