Derek Johnston

Derek Johnston is a seasoned healthcare and emergency services professional with extensive experience in various roles. Currently serving as a Hospice Nurse at BSA Hospice of the Southwest since May 2024, Derek's background also includes a long-standing position as a Firefighter with the Amarillo Fire Department since March 2011, where responsibilities include firefighting and assisting other agencies. Derek has held roles as a Flight Nurse at Rico Aviation since February 2021, RN in SICU/PICU at NWTH from January 2019 to March 2021, and Paramedic at American Medical Response from January 2013 to October 2018. In addition to practical experience, teaching roles as a Clinical Instructor at Texas Tech University and Amarillo College highlight Derek's commitment to education in emergency medical services. Derek's formal education includes a Master of Nursing in Family Practice currently in progress at West Texas A&M University, along with a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and an Associate of Science in Emergency Medical Technology from Amarillo College.
