Dr. Daniel “Dan” Sosa joined Riverside Unified School District in 2017. During his time in RUSD he has served as the director of Research, Assessment, Evaluation, and Technology Services and director of Strategic Initiatives and Program Development.
While at RUSD, Dan has facilitated development of the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP), co-led the development of the in-person/hybrid instructional model in preparation for students to return to school during the pandemic, and has most recently co-facilitated the creation of the District’s Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) in the areas of social-emotional learning, behavior, and academics.
Prior to RUSD, Dan served as a curriculum director, middle school and elementary school principal and a middle school teacher. As a curriculum director he worked with diverse teams to transition a school district from traditional to standards-based grading, transform a Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program to be more inclusive and equity focused, and build a district-wide system of support for academics. In his role as a principal, Dan led a highly diverse, high achieving middle school and was honored to lead a large, year-round elementary school to earn CA Distinguished School status. All of these experiences helped Dan become an Equity Champion and he is excited to continue to work in RUSD to eliminate systemic barriers that hinder students, families and the greater Riverside community from having access to opportunities within the Inland Empire.
Dan earned a bachelor's in Political Science and a master's in Educational Administration from California State University, San Bernardino. He later earned his doctorate in Organizational Change and Leadership from the University of Southern California. He and his wife have four children who have all been educated within the Riverside Unified School District.
