Before their tenure at Celgene, Mikael worked at Sithe Energies, Cendant, Bear Stearns, Bloomberg, and SEB in different accounting and financial analyst roles.

Mikael Justusson received their Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and Business from the University of Gothenburg, where they studied from 1986 to 1990. Following their undergraduate studies, they pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in Finance and Accounting from the University of New Haven, completing their studies in 1993.
In addition to their academic degrees, Mikael also obtained several certifications throughout their career. In 1996, they obtained the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation from the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA). A year later, in 1997, they obtained the Certified Financial Manager (CFM) certification, also from the IMA. In 1999, they earned the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential from the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA). Lastly, in 2005, they obtained the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation from the CFA Institute. In 2006, they obtained the Financial Risk Manager (FRM) certification from the Global Association of Risk Professionals.
