Derek Southern

Derek Southern currently serves as the Assistant County Manager for Rockingham County, a position held since December 2016, where responsibilities include assisting in the administration and coordination of County programs and leading performance management initiatives. Previously, Derek held the role of Chief Information Officer, overseeing the County's IT infrastructure and business systems. Prior to this, Derek served as Strategic IT/Customer Service Manager at Dynamic Quest, managing account management and customer service departments. Derek's earlier experience includes roles at International Textile Group as Desktop Support Manager and Sr. Technical Support Supervisor, as well as Support Specialist at Burlington Industries. Educational qualifications include an MBA in Business Administration and Management from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a BS in Information Technology from the same institution.
