SVP, Healthy Living & Community Engagement at RWJBarnabas Health

Barbara Mintz is the Senior Vice President of Healthy Living and Community Engagement at RWJBarnabas Health. Barbara has over thirteen years of experience in wellness, having previously served as the Assistant Vice President of Wellness at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center from 2001 to 2014. In this role, they were responsible for introducing wellness programs across the Medical Center, including nutrition, exercise, stress management, and smoking cessation programs. Barbara also managed and mentored a team of outpatient dietitians and established partnerships with state and local government offices, businesses, schools, and faith-based institutions to increase community engagement and program success.

During their time at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, Barbara spearheaded the build and launch of an on-site fitness center and created the “KidsFit” family wellness treatment and prevention model to support nutrition and wellness in local public schools. This work culminated in a visit from then First Lady Michelle Obama in 2010. Barbara also developed the first indoor winter Farmer’s Market and Outdoor Urban Farm in partnership with local farms to provide access to nutrition education and healthy foods for the greater Newark area. Her work has been recognized by the Newark Museum’s “Generation Fit” exhibit.

In their current role at RWJBarnabas Health, Barbara is responsible for leading the organization’s efforts to improve the health of its employees, patients, and communities. Under their leadership, RWJBarnabas Health has launched several initiatives to address the social determinants of health and promote healthy living, including a worksite wellness program, “The Beth Challenge”, which provides nutrition and wellness education for hospital employees through weekly weigh-ins, exercise training, and support.

Barbara Mintz holds a Master of Science in Nutrition Sciences from Saint Elizabeth University, a Didactic Program in Dietetics and Nutrition from Montclair State University, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing / Marketing Management from Seton Hall University. Barbara is certified by the American Council on Exercise as a Certified Personal Trainer with specialty recognition in Nutrition and by the American Dietetic Association as a Registered Dietitian.

Their manager is Barry H. Ostrowsky, President & CEO. They are on a team with William Faverzani - SVP, Children's Services, Debra Lienhardt - EVP, Business Development & Innovation, and Glenn Miller - EVP & Chief Development Officer.
