Avi Jayakumar is an experienced engineer with a diverse background in mechanical engineering and industrial design. Avi has held various roles throughout their career, starting as a Testing & Validation Co-op at Skyjack in 2008. Avi gained further experience as a Test Technician Co-op at Magna Closures in 2009 and as a Test & Validation Engineering Co-op at Husky Injection Molding Systems in 2010.
In 2010, Avi joined General Motors as a Fuel Systems Engineering Co-op before moving on to Daimler Buses North America in 2011. At Daimler Buses, they worked as a Designer in the Axle-Suspension Group, where they designed electro-hydraulic wheelchair ramp concepts for transit buses. Avi also conducted DFMEA and DVP&R for the ramp sub-system and resolved performance issues with older designs.
From 2014 to 2015, Avi worked as a Product Engineer at Active Exhaust Corp., focusing on the development of exhaust systems for off-road applications. Avi was responsible for designing and integrating various components, as well as conducting APQP practices and supporting cost estimates for quotations.
Avi then took on the role of Design Lead at ACPAD Instruments GmbH & ACPAD Instruments Pvt. Ltd. from 2015 to 2017. As part of the co-founding team, they led product design and engineering, local vendor sourcing, and customer service for the company's electronic music instrument.
In 2018, Avi joined ABC Technologies as an Engineering Designer in Advanced Product Development. Their responsibilities included spearheading new technology adoption, concept development, product design and engineering, and process and materials R&D. Avi also played a key role in the development of the "Mutualism - Smart Cockpit" project and led the rapid development of low-cost face-shields/headbands for COVID-19.
Avi then transitioned to Humber College in 2021, where they became a Part-time Instructor in Industrial Design. Avi shared their expertise in industrial design with students and contributed to their education and development.
Most recently, Avi joined RYSE in 2023 as a Lead Mechanical Engineer. In this role, they will utilize their extensive experience to lead mechanical engineering projects for the company.
Throughout their career, Avi has been involved in innovative projects, filed patents, and collaborated with cross-functional teams to drive product development. Avi has a strong track record of delivering successful outcomes and is known for their expertise in mechanical engineering and industrial design.
Avi Jayakumar completed their Ontario Secondary School Diploma from PSBB in Chennai from 1990 to 2002. Avi then attended Glenforest Secondary School in Mississauga from 2002 to 2005. Avi went on to pursue a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Honours Mechanical Engineering from the University of Waterloo from 2005 to 2011. Following this, they attended the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay from 2012 to 2014, where they obtained a Master of Design (M.Des) degree in Industrial and Product Design.
