Consulting Safety Officer II at Safety Partners, Inc.

Daniel Merselis has a diverse work experience in various roles. Daniel is currently working as a Consulting Safety Officer II at Safety Partners, Inc. since November 2022. Prior to this, they served as a Visiting Teaching Professor at Northeastern University from August 2021 to September 2022, where they taught genetics, microbial symbioses, and biology lectures to over 1,000 students.

From August 2019 to July 2021, Daniel worked as a Visiting Post Doctoral Investigator at Florida International University, where they used next-generation DNA sequencing to study the role of bacteria and dinoflagellate symbionts in coral bleaching. During this time, they also collaborated with NASA/NEEMO missions, training astronauts and revising protocols to adhere to NASA's rigorous standards.

Prior to their time at Florida International University, Daniel worked as a Research Technician in the Marine Microbiology & Ocean Acidification Programs at Mote Marine Laboratory from February 2013 to August 2013. Daniel also has experience as a Manufacturing Associate II at Lonza from June 2011 to February 2013, where they worked on the production of recombinantly produced therapeutics in a FDA audited environment, following cGMPs and utilizing various techniques such as ultrafiltration, chromatography, and centrifugation.

Daniel Merselis completed their education starting in 2007 at the University of New Hampshire, where they earned a Bachelor's Degree in Molecular Biology. Daniel then went on to attend Florida International University from 2013 to 2018, where they obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Marine Biology/Molecular Ecology. In addition to their academic achievements, they also obtained the certification of AAUS Scientific Diver from the American Academy of Underwater Sciences in September 2015.
