Walter Macklem

Walter Macklem is the Chief Architect of Product Engineering at Salesforce. Walter has held this position since January 2012. Prior to that, they were the Chief Technology Officer, Salesforce Platform & Salesforce 2020. In that role, they were responsible for the full stack architecture that powers the Salesforce Platform. Walter also drove the monolith to microservices transition across engineering.

Before joining Salesforce, Macklem worked at a number of other companies in various technical roles. Walter was a Principal Member of Technical Staff at Salesforce from October 2009 to August 2011. Walter was also a Lead Member of Technical Staff from July 2008 to September 2009. Prior to that, they were a Senior Member of Technical Staff from July 2007 to July 2008. Macklem began their career at Salesforce as a Member of Technical Staff in March 2006 and became an Associate Member of Technical Staff in August 2005.

Walter Macklem has a Master's in Computer Science from Stanford University and a Bachelor's in Computer Engineering from Michigan State University.
