Luke Appleton has extensive experience in research and community service. Currently serving as an Undergraduate Researcher in the Biology department at San Jose State University since June 2011, Luke specializes in genetics, population genetics, and the evolution of social behavior in insects. In addition to research, Luke is a family caretaker for a mentally handicapped brother, providing care since approximately high school. Luke also has experience as a tutor, assisting students with writing and public speaking from February to June 2012, and has volunteered over 300 hours at Sacred Heart Community Service from 2002 to 2009, where responsibilities included sorting donations and tutoring children. Luke holds a Bachelor of Science in microbiology with a minor in chemistry from San Jose State University, and is currently pursuing further education at CSU East Bay and other institutions.
